I’ve always worked with people in my personal and professional life, but never seemed to understand what really makes a great team and how people with different work preferences can work together to achieve a common goal. However, it wasn’t until I started interning at The Gabriel Institute that I realized that Teamability is the answer to all of my questions.
A simple online experience described as ‘starring in a movie’ measures the Role you play on a team. The unique thing about Teamability is that it was engineered to measure what is actually happening when people team together to achieve a common goal. I really love the idea of having an online experience which then determines the Role you want to play in a company. My report was really accurate, so I understand why so many CEOs from all over the world come to Teamability for help!
I had the great opportunity to work alongside my teammate/intern Tara, and we had a great time collaborating and working together. Even though our work schedule wasn’t the same, we still managed to communicate effectively with one another to get our projects and assignments done as a team. One thing I learned after working with her was how important and effective communication is, especially when you aren’t working with your team members on the same days. Teamability reports can really help you determine how your team members in your company work together depending on their roles!
Overall, I had a great experience working with Tara, Client Services Manager Nick Angell, and with our CTO; Dr.Janice! I will certainly use what I learned here as an Action Former to continue developing my Role in the professional environment and outside of work with my friends and family. A team that works effectively together is the key to success, and like Like Dr. Janice Presser says, “Timing isn’t everything. Teaming is!”
Though I’ve been part of teams for my whole life—from intramural soccer in elementary school to group projects in college—it’s always eluded me what precisely makes a team successful. However, after taking Teamability, beginning my internship here, and learning more about the technology behind Teamability, I’ve begun to find some answers. What I found particularly useful about Teamability is that it helps an individual succeed within a team, and in turn that allows the entire team to thrive. The Teamability Self-Coaching Report tells the participant their Role, or the unique way in which they can contribute to the team, among other things. According to Teamability, “a team will always be stronger when each team member has job responsibilities that are a good match for their Role.” I learned what it means to be a Communicator, how I can improve myself, and how I can be of more value to my team.
Now that I’m aware of my teaming characteristics, I’m better able to apply them, especially in working with my teammate / fellow intern Madhavi Patel. Because I started my internship the week before Madhavi, I used my Communicator skills to fill her in on what I’d learned, and she, as an Action Former, makes sure that we finish our projects on time. Though we work on different days of the week, we’re able to work as an efficient team by applying our Roles.
With Teamability, teaming makes sense – it’s no longer such an abstract concept. I’ve had a wonderful time working here and will be sure to continue using what I’ve learned about teaming and about myself. Because everyone works or lives with a team, any person stands to gain from experiencing Teamability.
We both had a wonderful time working together at Teamability this summer; we’ve made many memories and will miss working here. We’re excited to take what we learned into our futures in the professional world!
